2.) MPOB Review & Outlook Seminar 2023 in Putrajaya, Malaysia – The first annual event by MPOB is happening next week 12 January 2023. The focus will be on 2023 palm production and price outlook taking into account the main factors to watch including palm and related edible oil fundamentals and the macro impact of China re-opening and the inconclusive Russia-Ukraine war. MPOB will present the latest update on the 2022 oil palm planted area size. Malaysia’s planted area has been in a state of decline since 2020. The area size in 2021 was 5.738 million hectares or down 127,566 hectares from the year before. 2022 size is predicted to be around 5.700 million. Conversion of planted area in urban housing and township is the main reason for the gradual reduction in planted area size in Malaysia. Conversely, Indonesia’s planted area is likely to have expanded from an estimated size of 14.663 million hectares to 15.380 million in 2022 or up by 717,565 hectares. More about the event is here.
